The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) has completed a comprehensive induction programme for its newly appointed Board of Directors, marking the beginning of a new stewardship journey aimed at strengthening the Athoeity corporate governance.
When opening the induction programme, new Board Chairperson Dr Mpapho Motsumi welcomed the new members and reminded them of the critical role of the Board in providing strategic direction, effective oversight and support to Management.”This marks the beginning of an important stewardship journey.
The new Chairperson said effective governance requires a Board that understands the Authority’s mandate, appreciates the operating environment and works collaboratively with Management to achieve our strategic objectives.”
He encouraged Board members to participate throughout the induction programme actively, emphasising that open dialogue, honesty and mutual respect are essential for building a culture of trust, accountability and sound decision-making, saying, ” The induction provides an opportunity for Board members and Management to engage openly, understand the opportunities and challenges facing the Authority, and align on our collective responsibility in protecting public health,” he added.
The induction programme coverd key aspects of BoMRA’s legislative mandate, corporate governance framework, strategic priorities, regulatory functions, financial management, risk management and organisational performance. The Board Members engaged with the Executive Management team to gain a deeper appreciation of the Authority’s operations and the evolving regulatory landscape.
The Board is expected to deliberate on establishing its Board Committees on the second day of the induction programme, laying the foundation for effective governance structures.
