Strategic Alignment
Our Strategic alignment
BoMRA’s mandate is not exercised in isolation. The Authority’s work is a direct expression of Botswana’s national development ambitions — translating national policy intent into tangible public-health outcomes. Three interconnected frameworks define this context: Vision 2036, which sets Botswana’s long-term aspirational direction; the National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12), the medium-term investment vehicle for realising that vision; and the accelerated delivery engine designed to turn ambition into measurable results. Together, these frameworks give BoMRA its mandate, its resources, and its performance expectations — and all three are explicitly reflected in the Authority’s 2025–2030 Corporate Strategy.
National Development Plan
NDP 12 runs from April 2025 to March 2030 under the theme “Building a Diversified and Inclusive Deep Economy for Sustainable Jobs.” With a total budget of P388 billion (approximately USD 28.8 billion), NDP 12 marks a strategic pivot from diamond dependency toward a diversified, resilient, and knowledge-driven economy. Health and Wellness is identified as a Social Sector priority. Under NDP 12, BoMRA will receive funding for the development of its office infrastructure and the expansion of its national footprint.
Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP)
BETP, launched in August 2025, is Botswana’s national transformation engine — designed to translate Vision 2036 aspirations into measurable outcomes through the Big Fast Results methodology. Under BETP, BoMRA is designated as an accountable delivery institution within the Health and Wellness Social Sector pillar, with a specific mandate to strengthen Botswana’s national health regulatory system. This positions BoMRA not merely as a beneficiary of Government’s transformation programme, but as an active co-author of its success.
Importantly, these constraints have now been addressed. The enactment of the revised Medicines and Related Substances Act, together with secured funding under NDP 12, provide the Authority with the legal mandate and financial capacity required to drive its mandate.
