The World Health Organization (WHO) recently visited Botswana and undertook a two-day benchmarking pre-visit to Botswana on the 18th and 19th of July, 2024. The WHO team, consisting of two assesors, Andrea Keyter and Joseph Kabatende was hosted by BoMRA and the WHO Country Office.
The visit was an initial step in the formal benchmarking process, giving the WHO team a preliminary overview of the status of the Botswana Health Regulatory System, following the self-benchmarkings that BoMRA had been conducting annually since 2020. During the visit, the WHO team interacted with BoMRA’s critical stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health Leadership, the BoMRA Board, and other players in Botswana Health Regulatory System.
This was a critical engagement towards the attainment of WHO Maturity Level 3. Achieving ML3 will enhance BoMRA’s ability to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of medicines and other health products in Botswana, fostering greater public trust and facilitating better health outcomes.
