During the operation in Kazungula, a total of 512 unregistered medicinal products were confiscated from four shops and two street vendors found in possession of the illegal goods. These actions constitute a direct violation of Section 23 (1) parts (a), (b), (e), (f), and (h) of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 2013, which prohibits the possession, sale, and distribution of unregistered medicines.
This decisive enforcement action underscores BoMRA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that only safe, effective, and quality-assured medicines are made available to the public. Working closely with other law enforcement partners, BoMRA continues to strengthen the fight against the circulation of unregulated health products a threat that puts communities at serious risk.
As part of its ongoing mandate, BoMRA will continue to intensify market surveillance, raise public awareness, and strengthen collaboration with other law enforcement as well as border control authorities to prevent the importation and sale of counterfeit and substandard medical products. The protection of public health remains BoMRA’s top priority. We urge members of the public to purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies and authorized health facilities.
BoMRA remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the nation from falsified and unsafe health products and will continue to conduct robust operations to uphold the highest standards of pharmaceutical regulation in Botswana.
