The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA), was established under Section 3 of the Medicines and Related Substances Act (“MRSA”). The Authority is responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency and quality of medicines and related substances, which includes both human and veterinary medicines, medical devices and cosmetics in Botswana.
Appointed by the Honorable Minister of Health, the Board is the highest governance structure of the Authority with members selected from amongst persons with expertise in law, pharmaceutical industry, business management, medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and two other areas as may be determined by the Minister.
Also sitting on the Board are the Chief Executive Officer, Director of Veterinary and the Director of Health Services as ex-officio members, We hereby present to you the new Board of the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority.
Established by Section 6 of the MRSA, the Medicines Regulatory Board is the primary the governing structure responsible for setting the direction of the affairs and operations of the Authority. By Section 7 (1) of the MRSA, the Board consists of members appointed by the Minister of Health and Wellness, after consultation with the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security.
Health Services and the Director of Veterinary Services is an Ex-Officio member of the Board. The Board is comprised of persons with expertise in law, pharmaceutical industry, business management, medicine, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.
The Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Health Services and the Director of Veterinary Services is an Ex-Officio member of the Board.
